Project Description
Born in Surrey, Holly spent the first part of her art career as an illustrator, working with mostly watercolours, developing a detailed, free flowing style that complemented her subject matter of trees, flowers and creatures. Holly illustrated several published books including a full 32 page children’s picture book in seven different languages.
Wanting to see more of the world, Holly backpacked for 18 months around Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Whilst on her travels Holly met her future fiancé and made the move to live with him in his home country France.
Filled with inspiration from her travels, Holly continued her painting but this time expressing herself on bigger, bolder pieces, painting on top of gilded surfaces (a technique she had always been fascinated by). Working with metal a mere 0.8 microns thick and with numerous layers of varnish and glaze, Holly went on to hold several exhibitions in France, before moving back to England.
At present Holly produces art in her studio in her home county Surrey. Continuing to incorporate and explore the different possibilities of metal leaf. Her paintings capture the beauty and wonder of wildlife and all things natural.
